What are the causes of mold rust?

The main causes of mold rust and solutions:

(1) Gas generated by melt decomposition (corrosive)

Some raw materials will produce volatile gases when heated. These gases are corrosive and will corrode the mold. Therefore, it is necessary to control the temperature of the barrel so as not to overheat, and when the equipment stops working, clean the mold with a soft cloth and close the mold. If it is not used for a long time, spray anti-rust agent into the mold cavity, and also when closing the mold. Apply butter and plug the sprue.

(2) Cooling water in the mold

Cooling water is often used in the mold for cooling, so there is a lot of water vapor around the molding equipment. If the mold is cooled below the dew point, the moisture in the air will form water droplets on the surface of the mold. If not wiped off in time, it will easily rust. Especially after the mold stops working, condensation water will be generated quickly. Therefore, when stopping molding, the cooling water should also be turned off and the mold should be wiped dry.

(3) Carbide produced during molding

After the mold has been working for a long time, the molding material will precipitate and decompose to form carbides, which are also corrosive to a certain extent and often cause the mold to wear, corrode or rust. In this regard, if carbides are found to be formed or water droplets appear, they should be removed immediately.

(4) Storage environment

During the storage process, if the mold is kept in a humid environment for a long time, it is prone to rust. In this regard, we should control the ambient humidity, keep the place where the mold is stored dry and ventilated, and avoid a humid environment.

(5) Usage process

If the mold is not properly cared for and maintained during use, it will also be prone to rust problems. In this regard, when using molds, it is necessary to strengthen care and maintenance, clean and apply anti-rust oil in time.
